What a wonderful way to spend your birthday, in a shore town with beautiful homes, stunning sunsets and incredible food! What originally drew me to Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard was how much it was spoken about in all of the Jacqueline Kennedy books I’ve read over the years. It is where the Kennedy’s spent many days vacationing, raising their family and enjoying life. It was always spoken about in a very high manner and really always left me wondering what the fuss was all about. I knew celebrating my 30th birthday was a perfect time to explore the very streets that my idol, Mrs. Kennedy, walked. The 5 hour road-trip was all worth it when we drove past the waves crashing on the shoreline and the cute little cape cottages before us. The fishermen off of the docks, the sailboats all anchored at sea, the smell of the salted ocean, these were all sudden reminders that I was about to have an incredible vacation!
Pictured above is me sitting on a bench at the John F. Kennedy Memorial in Hyannis, MA. It would appear that the choice of transportation here is sailboat! 🙂 The memorial is beautifully done with a calmness to it that is only otherwise felt at the Kennedy memorial in Washington D.C.
This home is a Cape Cod home if I ever saw one! I love the wooden shingles that create the exterior of the home and the white window moldings all throughout. What would a home on the Cape be without beautiful hydrangeas resting along the sides of the front steps as well. This style of home is replicated a bunch in Cape Cod and many other shore towns. I think I may have convinced my husband to have a vacation home for us to enjoy with our kids in the future 🙂
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw an alpaca farm on the side of the road. It was honestly the last thing I thought I would see while driving through Martha’s Vineyard. If you know anything about me you know that my heart belongs to 3 of the most vulnerable beings on this Earth: Children, Elderly Folks, Animals! I love the opportunity to visit farms that are raising animals humanely and seeing the animals happy. I was able to pet the alpacas and even see a newly born alpaca nursing from his mother. The grounds were beautiful as well and very well kept!
Nobska Lighthouse was the only lighthouse I got around to visiting during my trip. This lighthouse is located at the Woods Hold harbor entrance. The crowds were plentiful here so capturing a good photo without many people was quite the challenge!
While on Martha’s Vineyard, in sticking with true local tradition, we had to sit for the sunset on Menemsha Beach! This sunset is supposed to be the best on the whole island and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed the many phases of the sunset while eating fresh lobster and clam chowder all with our toes in the sand 🙂
I didn’t take many photos during this visit, at least not as many as I typically do. I really tried to take in every moment and be in the moment. Sometimes struggling with your camera to get the right settings and the correct angle can cause you to miss out on where you are. I know for sure that this was my best birthday to date and that my setting in Cape Cod really had so much to do with that.

- If you choose to enjoy the sunset at Menemsha Beach be sure to arrive EARLY, I cannot stress this enough. A good 3 hours before the sunset or more is recommended. Parking is really horrible because everyone wants to enjoy the same sunset! Once you do find parking, walk up to Larsen’s Fish Market, Menemsha Fish Market or The Bite for some delectable seafood to enjoy on the beach while you await the sunset.
- Getting to Martha’s Vineyard was incredibly easy for us. We took the Ferry and even brought our car with us. If you choose to not bring a vehicle, they rent mopeds and bicycles all over the island so worry not.
