Let’s face it, Bali is one of the number one travel wishlist locations from almost everyone I speak to, and now I see why! This first post will be part 1 of 3 in my “Eat, Pray, Love: Bali Edition” series here on my blog. Eat, Pray, Love was such an amazing movie and although it only takes places partly in Bali, I sure found myself eating, praying and loving during my 10 days there so I figured the title was fitting! ๐ If you’re a foodie like myself, than this post is for YOU! I will be telling you all about the wonderful places I conquered “EAT” on my visit to Bali ๐ฎ๐ฉ.
Seminyak, Bali
Suffice it to say, my first meal in Bali was probably my favorite one ever, yes, these pancakes were that good! Let me preface this by saying that going on my first vacation as a foodie and being newly gluten free, was very intimidating. Would they have enough options for me? Would I have to not explore as much with food because of this new restriction? Let me put your mind to ease if you too are gluten free, the answer is NO! Bali is, in fact, a gluten free haven! Almost every restaurant we went to on this entire trip had so many gluten free options, I was so darn excited! ๐ Pictured above are the Banana Cassava Pancakes. These were the BEST pancakes I have ever had in my entire life! Dipped in that pink sauce, complete heaven โ๏ธ. I highly recommend a visit to the Kynd Community Cafe in Seminyak. It is stunning, super instagrammable, and has indescribable food! This restaurant is Vegan but let me state, as a non-vegan, I truly enjoyed myself here ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ
Other notable places that we tried in Seminyak:
- Motel Mexicola : Delicious food, extremely large place with more of a spring break feel, think dancing on tables and many extensive bars. I would say the food was great, but the party was better ๐๐ฝ!
- Sisterfields : Went here for breakfast. Acai bowl and avocado toast were delcious as well as the fresh fruit juices!
- Bo$$ Man Burger : We ordered here one rainy night when we decided to stay in. The burgers were juicy and super flavorful!
- Coffee Cartel: I wanted to try this place solely for the customizable cappuccinos BUT the rest of the food and juices were wonderful!! You can send them a photo of anything and they will print it in the foam of your drink, it’s totally worth the photo! ๐ ๐ธ Check it out below โฌ๏ธ
Ubud, Bali
Watercress cafe was somewhere that we went to a few times because it was right next to our hotel. The open air seating and delicious aรงaรญ bowls made this the perfect early morning choice to get our day going. You can tell on this trip, aรงaรญ bowls were an everyday thing. We typically began our mornings pretty early and I feel like eating something nutritious and light was just the best way to go! Eating locally sourced fresh fruit in the form of a bowl or a juice became a tradition each morning ๐ ๐ ๐.
The suckling pig is one thing you must try if you visit Ubud. It was recommended to us by many online bloggers and then confirmed to be a must try by our driver. We walked a short while down the road from our hotel and landed at Warung Ibu Oka, a restaurant known for their suckling pig. Be sure to get here earlier than later because they do tend to sell out. The pork was tender and flavorful for sure. I don’t recommend adding the green spicy topping though, I think is what gave me “Bali Belly”…yes I fell victim to this ๐ฉ…I don’t want to talk about it because I only talk about happy things haha๐ ๐.
If you’re looking for bougie food and a super luxe atmosphere, get a reservation at Kubu! The entire night was an experience. It all begins in their lobby where you are escorted via golf cart about 3-5 minutes down winding stone paved pathways past the most beautiful villas. You are dropped off and walk to your cocoon (make sure to request this when booking as they are limited). I love how private it is and the sound of the flowing river just outside the cocoon makes for a truly tranquil dining experience. The ambiance was perfect and then the meal was phenomenal as well…talk about a great night!
Other notable places that we tried in Ubud:
- Uname Ubud by Pramana: The Pork belly here was reportedly amazing from a friend we were traveling with, even better than the suckling pig ๐คซ haha
- Hujan Locale : Highly recommend the Tipat blayag which is a chicken coconut curry dish. I typically do not like curry but this was phenomenal and spicy…just how I like it! I also got the grilled corn side and it was mouth watering! Definitely try these!
- Halal Ubud Burger: I ended up here one night for an “in between meals” light bite and it was pretty good. A simple burger place with gluten free bun options ๐๐ฝ
- Bali Pulina Coffee Plantation : My husband made the visit here and said it was a pretty cool experience. They show you the actual animals that they get the “specimen” from to make the coffee. The coffee and tea flights they offered were also delicious!
The “Eat” portion of this EAT, PRAY, LOVE trip in Bali was honestly some of my favorite times! I swear I plan my travels around food and Bali certainly didn’t disappoint. It was so incredibly easy to eat healthy here, it definitely made me more conscious of what I ate upon my arrival back home ๐ฝ ๐ ๐ฅฆ.
Thank you all for your patience with this post and for taking the time to read this far into it, I know it’s long! I hope you left with some ideas for your travels and with your mouth watering just like mine ๐
