Master Bedroom Makeover: From Drab to Bright and Airy!

Light and airy bedroom makeover photo with all details.

When we initially bought this house, I knew that I had big plans to makeover this room. It is tiny but quaint and I really love how we have turned this room into a calm oasis for us to relax and rest in. No matter how small your room, you can always make big changes with new coats of paint and new accessories. In this post, I am going to share the before photo of my room, as well as all details for each thing that I added to make it much lighter and brighter ☀️

The Dreaded Before Photo

The BEFORE of my Master Bedroom Renovation

To be fair, this is the way my bedroom looked when we toured the home to purchase it. I didn’t actually take any photos of the furniture we moved in with but it was similar to this. Darker wood, darker paint, and overall outdated for my style! As you can see from this photo, I have lovely radiators (the price I paid for buying my dream little English Tudor) and therefore we need to work furniture around this.

The Upgrade Details

When we first moved in, I painted all of the upstairs walls in the shade “Balboa Mist” by Benjamin Moore. I LOVE that color, but felt that when I was taking on this new upgrade, a clean slate of Sherwin Williams “Pure White” was the perfect start!

Blue is a pretty consistent color throughout my home. Something about the color blue is so calming and pleasing to my eye that I literally have found a way to incorporate it into nearly every room! My bedroom was no different, I knew right away that my accent color would be a beautiful slate blue.

I began with my search for the perfect rug. I ended up coming across this one day at Home Goods, where I find all of my area rugs! Typically this rug would be considered too large for this area, but here’s what I say…if it works for you, there are NO rules of right or wrong. I like the feeling of stepping out of my bed onto the rug, not the floor so, this was the perfect size! 😂

Nightstand with accessories in blue and white master bedroom

I have greenery all over my home as well, this one in particular is my absolute favorite faux plant find ever! It is SO realistic and seriously the best addition to my bedroom. This little space in the corner was the perfect spot to add some “life”. I kept the nightstands simple and added a home decor book on the bottom of this one with a terrarium on top. The less clutter, the better in my eyes! I also really like how these lamps make a statement but don’t add bulk to an already smaller space. The clear base was a great find and the textured lampshade was the icing on the cake!

Foot of the bed bench in distressed natural wood

Call me a simpleton, but I have always wanted a bench at the foot of my bed haha! This one was very affordable and is a wonderful spot for my husband to sit and put on and off his shoes when he comes home from a late night shift at work. It really completes the space between the bed and the dresser so I was so happy when I found this.

natural wood distressed dresser with gold knobs and gold circle mirror

This dresser took me a long time to find and in all honesty I was about to just throw in the towel. Finding this one was actually an accident because I originally looked over it thinking it didn’t really go with the flow of the bedroom. I love the cooler toned things on the opposing wall (the nightstand and bed pillows), but I really love warm tones as well so here we are! This originally came with oil rubbed bronze drawer pulls which is another thing that totally threw me off. I saw that I could order gold replacement pulls and I was SOLD! The wood grain on this dresser is absolutely stunning and look at those 9 drawers for storage!😍

My mirror was another thing that seriously took me forever to decide on 🤦🏽‍♀️. I loved the trendy round gold mirrors but I knew that I needed something little different. This one was round and lovely but had the added unique wave to it which made it just what I was looking for! I ended up spray painting it because it was more orange than I wanted. I used Rustoleum Metallic Gold spray paint.
