Is it possible to completely renovate a small unused side room into a room that you will use every day with just a few hundred dollars?! The answer is YES! This, my friends, is how I used a few simple IKEA hacks (and a whole lot of playing Tetris with measurements), to create the perfect mudroom for my space! So, if you’re interested in relatively simple projects and get excited over complete room overhauls, this post is for you! 😊
I’m almost scared to even show the infamous before photo. I mean, this room was literally only used as a dump for miscellaneous things that we had no other place for. The sad part is that this little side room was an addition to our home so it was not really a high priority esthetically to the previous owners. This room, however, was the entryway to our backyard so we were forced to walk through it every time we wanted to head out there. I knew that there had to be a way to spruce it up and make it something that not only I loved and felt proud to walk through, but that would be super useful and provide storage for us as well!
Well…here it is ⬆️ 😟. Do you see all that mess just thrown in the room?! Yes, that is what had become of it and I can’t say I’m proud! The floors, the window shades, everything needed an overhaul!
I absolutely love how easy IKEA makes it to complete small budget renovations. I knew that I didn’t want to spend more than $1000 on this room because honestly, that’s all I thought it was worth. It’s not a main area of the house so no need to be “extra” here lol I popped onto the IKEA website and after measuring our whole room, began doing research🕵🏽♀️!
WHAT I ENDED UP USING FROM IKEA:
WHAT I ENDED UP USING FROM HOME DEPOT:
My husband also put down moulding all around the base of the wall to meet the floors. I, unfortunately, cannot remember which one we used and to me, a novice, they all look alike online 🤣🤷🏽♀️.
I am not a contractor, nor do I remember the technical terminology for what we did, BUT I will attach photos below of our process so you can see that with a little (or a LOT!) of patience, a LOT of measuring and remeasuring, and a whole lot of trips to Home Depot, it can be done!
⬆️ As you can see above, we had an old brick wall that was a part of the outside of the original home! It was a little difficult to maneuver around but we anchored the new pieces really well and all went well! 🙌🏽

You guys!! I am SO over the moon with how this all came out. I seriously stare at this room every time I am in my kitchen because it is exactly what I envisioned! My husband is a saint, his patience, handiness, and overall determination are honestly what got this project done!💪🏽 I aimed to get storage, more esthetic appeal, and something that would be within my budget and I got just that, and MORE!
