Happy Winter Everyone!! It’s been about three full weeks since I began transforming my tiny little apartment into a farmhouse/rustic, yet glamorous, North Pole 🙂 I can officially say I am done! Honey, did you hear that? No more early morning trips to my favorite home decor stores, no more pacing around the store staging different decor together to see if it works, no more glitter, flocking, and ribbon everywhere around our home, you’re welcome 🙂
Since having such a small space to work with living in an apartment, I sometimes find it a struggle to bring my decor from vision to actuality, but rest assured, with a little determination and a whole lot of patience, it can be done! I am always amazed at how cozy some good old fashioned pillows and trinkets (as my grandmother would call them) can make a space. This was my first year getting a flocked tree and I am absolutely in L O V E with it! I have held a 6 year tradition of cutting down my Christmas tree each year at a local tree farm but this year, we decided to take a break and do something a little different. When we have children one day, we will resume that old tradition, I’m sure.
Here are some decor tips I have for you:Â
- Map out your vision/theme early, let’s say end of September early November. This way you can get the best deals and take your time scoping out pieces.
- Get to the home decor stores early, places like HomeGoods often have the best picks of the litter right at opening and trust me, it’s way better to shop with nearly no one in the store.
- Not everything has to match, I actually love to mix textures (fur, metals, wood, fabrics, etc.)
- For things like ornaments, my husband and I love to collect an ornament from every place we travel to. I always try and choose one with a neutral color tone so that it will go with my tree no matter what. This is also a great way to incorporate a personal touch and create memories 🙂
- Be open to searching multiple stores, and don’t settle! I had to go to 3 different stores before I found a nativity set that I felt went well with my vision. This is another reason why it’s great to give yourself time 🙂
- Follow your favorite decor pages on instagram!! This is a huge one! I often get inspiration from my favorite decor pages and sometimes these pages have an online store where you can buy super unique pieces! (Will list my favorites below)
- ALWAYS search the store’s website to grab up any coupons, you know I love a good deal. I get a serious adrenaline rush when I whip out coupons or double promotion codes and get a huge savings!
- Last but certainly not least, ENJOY the decorating process, especially for Christmas, sometimes we get wrapped up in making things look perfect, but in reality, the love that your home is filled with is the most perfect part of the holidays 🙂
