Splurge: Buying My First Chanel!

I did it, I splurged! I had absolutely no intention of purchasing anything this grand while on my honeymoon. My intentions quickly went out the window when I laid eyes on this handbag though. I remember looking up what Chanel boutique featured the stairs to Coco Chanel’s apartment the evening before. I noted down that it was the boutique on Rue Cambon and was on my way the following morning. In the 1920s, Chanel purchased the entire building at 31 rue Cambon. On the ground floor is where she opened her first fashion boutique; the first floor housed her couture studio, and the second and final floor are where her apartment is actually located.

Upon arrival, you are quickly greeted by their wonderful employees who are very helpful but not over pushy, something I really liked since I was just looking, after all, right? A woman being helped caught my eye as she held up a navy blue version of this bag. I knew just then, I had to have it! The way she styled it right there in store with different lengths of the chain and the huge statement such a little piece made is what really sold me.

Now, it was my turn. I asked to see the bag in black since I thought it would be more versatile in my collection than the navy or any other colors they had. With white gloves on, the saleswoman handed me the bag. I loved everything about it. The subtle patent Chanel on the matte black iconic quilted leather, the compactness of it since I love a good small bag and of course the best part, the unexpected hot pink interior!

There, that very day, I walked away with my very first Chanel purchase ever. I loved that it was while in Paris, what better way to purchase a first Chanel?! To this day it is my go to black handbag. I’ve worn it to weddings as a clutch with the straps tucked in, and as a date night bag with the middle length strap. For someone petite like myself, I really like the way I could make the strap shorter to fit my body.
